We had an ice storm yesterday in Montreal. It reminded me of those two glorious weeks of high school that were canceled in 1998 when we had the most epic one we’d ever seen. This was nothing like it, but my car did manage to magically grow a second window, if you will – four of them, actually.
I love the way the entire world outside looks crystallized during an ice storm, frozen in time, sparkling and crackling in the wind – so crisp and ethereal; and when such delicate beauty surrounds you, it’s important to keep cozy and stay chic!
I can’t think if a better way to do it than to drape oneself in faux-fur, and the ultimate soft sweater by BB Dakota, from Voluptuous Clothing!!!
I love the elegance of its dusty rose colour and how it looks against my Christmas presies from my mum – this gorgeous, grey faux-fur trapper hat and matching snood from Chapters/Indigo (leave it to me to walk into Chapters and leave with something other than a book on my Christmas list).
So fab paired with simple black leggings and boots, and the most amazing silver, iridescent clutch from Penningtons.
Winter hasn’t been quite what it usually is this year… For starters it has rained for the past few days, leaving us with a green Christmas (or at least a green one, spotted with patches of dirty white).
It’s also been quite mild, with temperatures well into the positives, and I must admit, it’s causing a very springy vibe.
As a matter of fact, it has felt so much like spring here, that yesterday I was channeling a total springtime fairy vibe… And I’m not gonna lie, I dig it!
I pranced through the patches if exposed grass, wondering if any early crocus buds would be poking up through the still frozen ground, and I smelled that unmistakeable smell of spring rain (pretty much a combination of mud & dog poop – I don’t know why they name fabric softener and scented candles after it).
I wore the absolute most comfortable pants in the universe (I’m not even joking right now). These amazing brown harems from Your Big Sister’s Closet are everything, and I felt like I was floating.
I paired them with a cute, short sleeved, cropped sweatshirt that I’ve had kicking around for ages, sparkly gold flats, a pretty flower ring, and get this – a headpiece. Only… It wasn’t meant to be one.
It’s actually a bib necklace which just so happens to (especially when paired with the perfect pair of flowy harem pants) double flawlessly as a spring goddess headdress, because who’s gonna stop me!?
So you can imagine how cool it was popping into Voluptuous Clothing while I was in Toronto recently, and having the privilege of meeting the VoluotuousClothing.com CEO, Angela, who just happens to be a fabulous, sky-high heel wearing lady whom you just can’t help but admire!
I had ordered a cute, plaid bodycon dress from Voluptuous not too long ago, which I’m sure many of you will remember from my blog post, and I adored it so much that I knew I couldn’t leave the store empty handed!
I fell in love with this super chic, black & white knit, BB Dakota dress as soon as I saw it!
With its classic pattern and weighty fabric, wearing it feels like pure luxury!
It’s literally so comfortable I could have worn it to bed as pyjamas, and gotten up and kept on wearing it again the next day!
I’ve added a great belt, nude flats, and a fancy, fringed kimono from Ashley Stewart, topped off with a handcrafted, beaded necklace, a sassy ring, and the perfect faux fur clutch from Aldo, for a chic look with an elegant playful touch that combines class and comfort, effortlessly.
I really had a blast while I was away over the weekend. I shopped, ate good food, took in some sights, but most excitingly of all – I attended Big Deal Toronto (an amazing event, which I talked about about in my last post).
For this special occasion, I decided to take my new, luxurious, cream coloured shawl collar coat from Forever 21+ out on the town!
I paired it with the coolest ever, Lot18 denim overalls from Addition Elle, ivory high neck crop top from Girl With Curves, and cute, pale rose flats from Aldo for a casual, chic look that was perfect for a day of shopping and chatting with some of the most stylish plus size fashionistas I know!!!
I’ve got to mention though – this particular crop top look was quite the risk for me! I wore crop tops all summer long and fell in love, but I had never styled one quite like this – exposing so much of my “vulnerability” (AKA fat rolls… Haha!).
A few years ago I probably would have gasped in horror at the idea of going out in public like this; and I admit, I wasn’t 100% comfortable at first; but as I stood outside and posed for pics I felt confident and beautiful as I bared my love handles in all their fleshy glory!
Crimped hair and few pretty accessories, like midi rings, and these fabulous, front/back faux pearl earrings from Forever 21 topped off this very playful look to perfection.
So, as most of you know, I spent the weekend out of town to attend Big Deal Toronto, blogger closet sale, and body positive gathering of the plus size community, organized by blogger, Karen Ward (Curvy Canadian), owner of Your Big Sister’s Closet.
I also got the chance to meet up with some of my lovely blogger friends, as well as meet some new beautiful, blogging babes!!! I managed to do a little shopping too!
I set out for my first retail adventure on Saturday in my fave new “Addicted to BLACK” tank top from Addition Elle, which couldn’t be more true!
My 2014 New Years resolution was to wear more colour, just to put things into perspective a little, so you can imagine I have a bit of a love affair with black; and with it being everywhere this fall, I definitely won’t be kicking the habit anytime soon!
I paired it with a great pair of jeans, my vintage Burberry trench & scarf, and my favourite thing to put on my feet right now (besides peppermint foot lotion – OMG I love that stuff), my thigh high boots from SexyPlus!
With my Louis in hand, I was ready to tackle the city, but not before making friends with a pigeon… Heheee!
Stay tuned for a couple more posts this week featuring what I wore to the event, what I bought there, as well as a fab new dress from Voluptuous Clothing, that I just couldn’t live without!!!
PS. This shoot was not without risk! Pigeons poop… A LOT! Luckily I didn’t get hit, but it was a close one!
It’s officially thanksgiving weekend and I’ve been trying to get this post out all week, I swear!!!
First, the day I was supposed to do my shoot, my bestie gave birth to a beautiful baby boy (Yay!!!) annnd then I dropped my phone in the bathtub while attempting to shave my legs and binge watch Vampire Diaries at the same time (Damn you, Damon!!!). So, just add those to my list of excuses for why I don’t get posts out on time… *sigh*
Aaaaanyway, I’m super excited to finally show off this fabulous, pixelated plaid, bodycon from Toronto based, Voluptuous Clothing!!! I first saw it, worn to perfection by the stunning Fluvia Lacerda, and featured on the cover of the Fall Fashion issue of DARE Mag and fell in love! It’s the absolute perfect autumn dress, with a classic, curve hugging silhouette and this fall’s hot plaid trend, which I just can’t get enough of!
I’ve paired it with these incredibly cool, wide calf, thigh high boots from SexyPlus Clothing (Yasss!!!), another Canadian owned business (Whoop whoop!!!) and this stunning leather and bronze, handcrafted, African statement necklace, by Montreal Jewelry Designer, Djénéba Daou, for a chic fall look that works for anything from work, to turkey dinner with the fam!!!
Do you know what size you are? You may be reading this and thinking, of course I do – but fellow Canadian, Tierra Sedgemore, the designer of this fab tee, and founder of the Size Sexy movement is trying to change the way women have been letting their sizes define them, one t-shirt at a time!
The message written across these tees is a short, but powerful one. A true rebel of a slogan, it goes against the idea we’ve all had drilled into our heads since we were little girls, that we are the number on our clothing labels. Notice how, even at the beginning of this post, I asked what size you are, and not what size you wear? That right there is proof enough that we have been letting our sizes determine our worth for far too long.
I’ve paired mine with my pastel pink tutu from Zelie For She, gunmetal accessories and my grey, Rampage, grunge boots, for a playful, sexy look with a whole lot of attitude!
Purchase your Size Sexy tees in an assortment of colours on Tierra’s website (here), and in store or online at Sexy Plus Clothing. Also, don’t forget to follow Tierra on Instagram @tierrasedgemoresizesexy and use the #sizesexy hashtag!
In parting I’ll leave you with the words of the lady herself – “Don’t be defined by your size. Be size sexy!!!”
