I don’t know about you, but I always get a little verklempt come New Year’s Eve (as I think many of us do) because it’s just such a symbolic time of change, rich in nostalgia and the warm fuzzy holiday feels; but this year, I’ve found myself even more in my feelings than I’ve ever been before.
I’ve overcome a great deal of personal challenges this year. It wasn’t easy. I will go so far as to say that I survived 2015, more than I lived it; but with each obstacle, I became stronger, better, faster (okay, not faster), and I learned to be very proud of who I am, and the people in my life.
I can honestly say, although in the thick of things, it was hard to acknowledge, it has been an amazing year despite it all, because alongside all the crap that it threw my way, a lot of great stuff happened too!
The greatest gifts I could have possibly received this year are that of realizing that I’m a much more resilient person than I ever imagined myself to be. I’ve finally learned to trust that I will overcome, I will thrive, and I’ve see just how much of a rock I am to my family.
It’s a good feeling to know that I’m deserving of this status. I don’t think I had ever felt that I was until this year. I know now that I deserve to be happy, not just about my body, but about my choices as a mother, a wife, and most importantly, a woman.
Difficult times may seem a little (ok, hell of a lot) confusing, but trusting yourself to make sense of that confusion is definitely something to be proud of, and I have finally been able to accomplish it.
Although life if full of grey areas, at least some things can still be black and white, and my New Year’s Eve dress from City Chic is just that—black, white and elegant all over! I’m totally obsessed with the lace detail, and its playfully pleated sheer skirt!
Paired with my fabulous feather bolero, a dazzling statement necklace, and delicate, handmade crystal earrings from Cristy Ellen K…
And printed tights from Addition Elle, with my beautiful, black, sparkly, T-strap pumps that I designed from Shoes Of Prey, I am ready for that ball to drop, and to welcome in the new year, surrounded by the people I love the most!

“That designer should be fired,” they said… “Not flattering at all,” they said… “Even the model looks unhappy to be wearing it,” they said… But what did Alysse Delassandro, designer (and said “unhappy” model) of the controversial Ready To Stare Convertible Cupcake Dress say…?
“Fuck you to flattering fat girl clothes,” and I couldn’t agree more!
I saw it on Facebook first, back around the time her holiday collection launched — the nasty comments, all because a designer dared to challenge society’s idea of what plus size fashion should be.
Even though I’ve learned not to be surprised by the closed-mindedness of people on the Internet, I couldn’t help but be a little bit shocked that so many plus size women themselves couldn’t see how empowering a statement this dress (which can also be worn as a skirt) truly was.
I get it though, I don’t feel this way personally, but I get it — we, as fat women, have fought so hard to wear form fitting clothes and be accepted by society, that the idea of wearing a piece that hides our curves seems scary — but it’s not.
In fact, it’s probably no more scary than the first time a fat woman wore a bodycon dress, which, newsflash — angry conformists everywhere probably had a problem with too!
What Alysse has done, is go up against the standard, which was once a controversy itself, and say, it’s time to forge further and conquer new territory in plus size fashion! It’s time to step out of these stagnant waters and allow ourselves to accept that we have a right to wear any style a thin person can, whether society deems it “flattering” or not!
All of that aside, I love this dress. I loved it even as my eyes were drawn down into vitriol being spewed in the comments section, and not just because I think everything Alysse touches turns to gaudy, yellow gold (in the most perfect possible sense, of course) but because it’s playful, bold, and one of the most couture plus size pieces I’ve seen this year.
So as it comes to a close, and we ready ourselves to stare 2016 in the face, I wish you all very happy holidays, as I prance through the snow in festive red, woven with gold, that, like its name suggests, looks good enough to eat!

I remember the first time I ordered a piece from Monif C. It was a dress, in the most dazzling multicolour print which seemed to contain every shade known to man, with one sheer black sleeve, and a whole lot of attitude! I had never worn anything that hugged my curves and made me love my hips so much in my entire life.
That was about two years ago now, but Monif C. has been killing the plus size fashion game for much longer than that!
10 years to be specific, and to celebrate, the brand has teamed up with ten fabulous blogger babes, myself included, to showcase their “A Decade Of Curves” collection!
I was asked to choose my fave Monif C. piece from the new collection, and I instantly fell in love with the “Paloma” fleece jumpsuit!!!
While it can definitely be dressed down and worn as a casual outfit, I really wanted to play on the contrast that this jumpsuit already contains within itself and pair this sporty fabric with classic, super elegant, almost Gatsby-esque accessories.
This stunning collar necklace and embellished clutch from Aldo, and my custom shoes that I designed myself from Shoes Of Prey were the perfect pieces to adorn this velvety grey masterpiece and really make a statement.

So stay tuned and GOOD LUCK!!!
P.S. How cute is my photographer/hubby? It would have been a shame not to get him on the other side of the camera at least for one shot! Hehee!

So, if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, you probably already know… I have pastel purple hair now!!!
I’ve been feeling like a needed a change for some time now, and I’m not ready to cut everything off again just yet, so I figured some temporary colour was the way to go… And I’m in love with it!!!
Admittedly, it reminds me of a very confused style phase I went through from the late 90s to the early 2000s, which involved a slew of wild coloured hair dyes, dark brown lipstick, facial (and a few other more risqué) piercings, a few tattoos that I regret, and a whole lot of Matchbox Twenty, Missy Elliott, and… Sigh… Creed.
So, in honour of awkward times past, I decided to let my nostalgia take the lead on this one!
I paired one of my fave white blouses (an oldie, but a goodie) with some great black leggings with pleather insert detail, from Penningtons. Overtop, I layered one of my fave spring sale scores, this gorgeous chiffon skirt/belt thing (I honestly don’t know how else to describe it) from Addition Elle’s 2014 holiday collection.
I accessorized with some fun fake tattoo bracelets, put in all my earrings (which my Catholic high school’s administration were not pleased with back in the day), threw on my new Hautecore lippie from MAC, and finished it all off with my gorgeous shoes, from Shoes of Prey, for a delicate, classic touch.
I’m pretty sure I would have swooned at the sight of this outfit back in 2001…
And even though, back then, crazy hair colours were all about the neons, I would have been downright drooling over this pastel mauve, without a shadow of a doubt!

Regardless of which holidays you celebrate, there is something magical here in Montreal this time of year! The snow-covered rooftops, decorated trees, houses aglow with dazzling multicoloured lights – no one can deny their beauty!
At least for me, there is even something exciting about a crowded shopping mall, or a busy intersection this close to Christmas. I just love seeing everyone rushing about, and wondering where they’re going, who they’re buying that last minute gift basket for, if they are on Santa’s nice list this year, and especially, what they’ll be wearing once they’ve found that train set little Timmy had so wanted, and their flustered, rosy cheeks settle briefly, only to return after a few splendid Christmas cocktails!
What could me a more perfect thing to wear, as I gather with the fam for the first of many celebrations to come this week, than my gorgeous, hunter green, uber fashiony (I know that’s not a word) Monif C. dress!
I paired it with another pair of fab shoes (designed by yours truly) from Shoes of Prey (Have I mentioned how much I love this website?). They’re just the right mix of edginess from the snakeskin, and princessiness (also not a word) from the kitten heel and bows – perfect for a whimsical, festive Christmassy look!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!
Because every woman needs a Little Black Dress!
No woman’s wardrobe is quite complete without the perfect little black dress. Many of us even have a whole section of our closets devoted solely to this fashionista’s staple, in all fabrics, styles, and silhouettes!
Oddly enough though, considering all the clothes I have, (which is way more than I need because, #shoppingproblems) I only have three! One is a glitzy sequins number, and the other two are both very simple T-shirt dresses.
T-shirt dresses are my faves because they are just such effortlessly versatile pieces! It never ceases to amaze me how one can be worn as a baggy oversized tee, with belt & a pair of jeans, yet can still be dressed up to create an uber classy, elegant look that nobody would believe was formed around the likes of a glorified T-shirt.
I’ve paired my ASOS Curve LB T-shirt D (Hehee!) with thee absolute most luxurious feather bolero from Addition Elle, faux-fur beanie from ASOS, faux-fur muff from TionDesign and my gorgeous shoes (designed by moi) from Shoes of Prey.
I topped the look off with a fab, old Hollywood style bib necklace and earrings from Forever 21 for a decadent, Art Deco inspired holiday look that lacks in neither comfort, style nor practicality… Okay, it totally lacks in practicality, but how adorable do I look!?
And Just in case you can’t tell, there was a serious blizzard happening here in Montreal during this shoot!

Don’t get TOO excited, now! It’s just a dress… Ha…
The moment I saw this dress I simply new it had to be mine – I’d been waiting for a minimalist, nude dress for so long, and this fab strapless midi from Custom Plus was perfection!
These shoes, however had been my nemesis ever since the day after the occasion I had bought them for. I designed them myself on shoesofprey.com for a wedding and have had such a ridiculously hard time working them into my wardrobe – partly because they are a little extravagant, but mostly because I had almost stopped wearing silver for a while, and they just never seemed to be a good fit with what I had on. I had them stashed in the back if my closet, and had almost forgotten about them completely, when I stumbled upon a stunning, multi-coloured jewel encrusted statement necklace on Instagram, from Toronto based, Revolucion Jewelry. I lusted after it for a while, and finally placed my order. After receiving it, I immediately envisioned this bold, eccentric piece with my kitten heeled, glittery, bowed, perfect disasters & my new dress, and everything just fell into place.
The first, being the daytime look; and in keeping with the recent dress-over-pants trend, I paired it with my Parasuco jeans from Addition Elle and my white, 3/4 length sleeve blazer from Torrid. I had been wanting to try these shoes with a boyfriend jean, and they just worked, even for daytime, with this simple, sophisticated look. All I needed was a nude lippie, and a pop of colour from my hot pink, Kate Spade tote, and I was ready to go!!!
For the transition into an evening look, I wore the dress as a stand alone piece, displaying all (and I mean all) my curves in all their roly-poly glory! With the addition of my gorgeous Revolucion Jewelry necklace, a switcheroo from tote to nude clutch (Aldo), the addition of a colourful, shell bracelet, purchased at a local market in Haiti, and a deep red lip, my look was transformed from daytime chic to evening glam in no time!!!
