No, I’m not a creep, I swear… It’s just that my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Tess Holliday, her amazing husband Nick (who is so supportive and delightful, by the way), and their adorbale newest wee one, Bowie, last month when they were in Montreal, and I’m still in awe of her just a little bit (okay, a lot).
Tess was in town, of course, working on her clothing line, MBLM by Tess Holliday, at the Penningtons head office which in conveniently located in my city. She had just flown out of Montreal to NYC and back again in the same day in true boss babe fashion when we grabbed our late supper, which to be honest, was hella impressive because I don’t think I would have still been standing after a crazy day like that, let alone giving blogger fan girls like me the time of day! Alas, She was incredibly gracious and we ate, and chatted about our kids, our families, and of course her clothing line!
As it turns out, this busy beauty has been working really, REALLY hard on this, and honestly, it shows! Looking at the whole line, you can really see her in it… And I don’t just mean you can see her wearing all of it (which you totally can), but if you’ve been following Tess Holliday for any amount of time, you can see how she brought all of herself into this line truly making it her own. Tess never shies away from bold fashion choices and turning up the sex appeal, and thanks to her, now Penningtons customers, and plus size women, especially in Canada (although her line is available in the US as well), who are looking for affordable pieces that that are youthful, fashion forward, and sexy, can enjoy some long needed edgier options!
One of my favourite pieces (although it’s pretty hard to choose) was this little black dress— simple at first glance, but it’s all in the details! The 3/4 sleeves, tone on tone coated trim, and studs are super cute, and my favourite part is the the sexy thigh high slit! I love showing a little leg and this dress definitely does just that.
Patent leather oxfords, a gold choker, some dangly chain earring, and a totally chic “doggy bag” (so I can tote my pretty little chihuahua girl around in style with me like the shamefully obnoxious small dog owner that I’ve become), have just the right amount of glam and attitude to compliment the dress perfectly.
It’s the breath of fresh air we so very much needed on the Canadian market where the choices for young plus size women, especially when it comes to options that are available in brick and mortar establishments, remain somewhat limited.

Do you know what size you are? You may be reading this and thinking, of course I do – but fellow Canadian, Tierra Sedgemore, the designer of this fab tee, and founder of the Size Sexy movement is trying to change the way women have been letting their sizes define them, one t-shirt at a time!
The message written across these tees is a short, but powerful one. A true rebel of a slogan, it goes against the idea we’ve all had drilled into our heads since we were little girls, that we are the number on our clothing labels. Notice how, even at the beginning of this post, I asked what size you are, and not what size you wear? That right there is proof enough that we have been letting our sizes determine our worth for far too long.
I’ve paired mine with my pastel pink tutu from Zelie For She, gunmetal accessories and my grey, Rampage, grunge boots, for a playful, sexy look with a whole lot of attitude!
Purchase your Size Sexy tees in an assortment of colours on Tierra’s website (here), and in store or online at Sexy Plus Clothing. Also, don’t forget to follow Tierra on Instagram @tierrasedgemoresizesexy and use the #sizesexy hashtag!
In parting I’ll leave you with the words of the lady herself – “Don’t be defined by your size. Be size sexy!!!”
For those of you who don’t know what these are, they are the terms that people type into their search engines which lead them to clicking on my blog, and you can believe me when I say that many if these terms are downright hilarious! I’ve seen search terms going from “fat nude white girl” all the way to “big black sexy naked beauty.”
Yup. Nudity is almost always in there somewhere; but the second most common search terms I see go something along the lines of “how to wear plus size harem pants.”
I gather, from how often these search terms come up, that harem pants continue to be a coveted, yet intimidating style among the full figured community, and I totally understand. I was, at one time very much nervous about wearing them too.
See, and I know I’ve discussed this with you many times before, I have a serious case of the bum-tum (tummy that looks like a second butt in the front), and harem pants have proven to be a huge struggle to pull off (not literally off, that part is easy).
I wrote another post a while back (here) about with a tip on wearing a peplum top, or belt to help disguise your tummy. I still love this idea, but I’ve come up with another.
As you can see, I’ve paired the same harem pants (Forever 21+) from my other post, with this absolutely delicious blue, vintage style tee from Addition Elle; and instead of tucking it in and putting my belly on display, I’ve left it untucked, except for a small bit of it on one side. This way, you have nearly full tummy coverage while still showing off the signature high waist and pockets of the pants at the same time. It’s the best of both worlds!
Pair the ensemble with colourful flats and a bright handbag for a casual, chic, put together look that incorporates the on trend look of harem pants with the comfort of knowing you’re tummy is hidden.
As the fall collections roll out (I’ll admit it, I’m excited), and the days start to noticeably shorten; as the back to school supplies hit the shelves and much to their chagrin, we begin mentioning to our kids that’s school will be starting again soon, it’s easy to forget that it’s still summer – at least for a little while longer here in Montreal.
To remind myself of this, I broke out my white Bermudas from Addition Elle, and 3/4 length sleeve, white blazer from Torrid, this weekend. I’d been waiting to wear them so my best friend’s baby shower on Saturday was the perfect occasion!
I paired the pieces with this lovely ombré, ruffled tank top, my trusty nude, T-strap flats, a vintage Berma Paris snakeskin clutch (circa 1975), my gold bangles, pretty stud earrings and a transparent, iridescent chain link necklace from Forever 21 that matched beautifully with the colours in my top.
This outfit was the perfect reminder that summer hasn’t ended yet, and as much fun as it is to start planning fall outfits, it’s better not to wish your life away, but rather to live in the moment sometimes, and get every little bit of pleasure from life in, while you can!
