French Curves: FESTIVAL

It’s the 16th of the month again!!! Time for my French Curves post – an outfit photo challenge with the French touch, created by the gorgeous Vanoue, of The Curvy and Curly Closet

The theme this month: FESTIVAL!!!

If you don’t speak French, worry not, my lovelies!!! As usual, an English translation will follow!

Il est encore le 16 du mois ! C’est a dire, un nouveau French Curves Challenge – la collaboration entre les blogueuses francophones de taille plus, crée par la ravissante Vanoue, de The Curvy and Curly Closet.

And now for my English readers!

Festival season always inspires me! There’s a certain sort of magic this time of year. The style invokes a nostalgia for a bygone era – a time we all associate with love and free-spiritedness.

I did my best to keep my spirit free, (despite the fact that it was raining cats and dogs) by remembering that, historically, some of the most memorable festivals happened when it rained.

For my festival look, I wore a simple and chic black T-shirt dress from Zellie For She, with a pretty, butterfly print, fringed blouse from Addition Elle.

To complete my outfit, I accessorized with a leather bracelet, some extravagant earrings heart-shaped sunnies, a floral ribbon adorned Panama hat and fabulous beaded sandals from ASOS; but that’s not all…

The star of the show hides humbly under my dress (oh go on, get your mind outta the gutter!!!) — a pair of black lace Bandelettes, because it’s impossible to enjoy a festival when a you can think about is the chub rub going on between your thighs, am I right!?!

So, even though the rain was falling on my head at a hundred miles an hour, I channeled my festival spirit!!!

My Tutu Experience

I’ve worn a tutu before. I own a pretty, light pink one, and it’s very much adorable, but I’ve always felt that it lacked a little drama for those times when I really wanted to slay.

So, while scrolling through my newsfeed one day, I happened upon a post from Mo Handahu, better known to most of you as the fabulous, Halifax based life & style blogger/designer/spectacular sunglasses aficionado, Lion Hunter

She is just the epitome of cool, and takes the word chic to a whole new level with her consistently epic print mixing, and awe-inspiring accessories, so her posts always jump right off my screen, begging to be admired.

In this particular one, she was wearing a vibrant blue tutu, a colour that struck me as uncommon as far as these puffy tulle skirts go.

I soon discovered that not only was she wearing it five different ways with that flawless pizazz that only she can pull off (which is impressive in its own right), but she had hand crafted it herself as part of a lookbook for her own line, called “The Tutu Experience.” (Whaaaaaaaa!? No wayyyyyy, right!?)

So, I guess you can imagine my excitement upon finding out that not only could I now own one of Lion Hunter’s gorgeous tutus, but I could also have a chance to touch a piece of her, now somehow tangible, greatness!!!

There were so many colour choices, and it was tough to make a decision, but I had always wanted a brown tutu. So after giving some measurements, and a special request or two, a few clicks later my tutu order was sent!

All I can say is, OMIGAWWWWWD it’s everything!!! I’m not even kidding. I’m completely obsessed with it (like, I’ll take three more, obsessed)!!!

I paired it with a cute leopard crop top from Rebdolls, because after all, I couldn’t wear a piece from Mo without paying homage to her by wearing at least one print!

I accessorized with some fierce, (albeit wickedly uncomfortable) cobalt blue pumps (probably my last attempt at heels ever) by Christian Siriano for Payless, a handmade Malian bronze & bead necklace, and topped it all off with my trusty yellow Ted Baker springbok hide clutch, for an edgy, vibrant touch.

I definitely turned heads in my tutu, between its rich brown colour, striking design, and the wind that kept blowing it up and showing off the goodies; and I can officially say this tutu experience was glorious!!!

Check out more from Mo, including her entire line of custom-made tutus and skirts for every body on Etsy, and her incredible personal style and more on her blog, Lion-Hunter.com

Toronto Style

IMG_2270.JPG
So, as most of you know, I spent the weekend out of town to attend Big Deal Toronto, blogger closet sale, and body positive gathering of the plus size community, organized by blogger, Karen Ward (Curvy Canadian), owner of Your Big Sister’s Closet.

I also got the chance to meet up with some of my lovely blogger friends, as well as meet some new beautiful, blogging babes!!! I managed to do a little shopping too!

IMG_2259.JPG
I set out for my first retail adventure on Saturday in my fave new “Addicted to BLACK” tank top from Addition Elle, which couldn’t be more true!

IMG_2260.JPG
My 2014 New Years resolution was to wear more colour, just to put things into perspective a little, so you can imagine I have a bit of a love affair with black; and with it being everywhere this fall, I definitely won’t be kicking the habit anytime soon!

IMG_2266.JPG
I paired it with a great pair of jeans, my vintage Burberry trench & scarf, and my favourite thing to put on my feet right now (besides peppermint foot lotion – OMG I love that stuff), my thigh high boots from SexyPlus!

IMG_2263-0.JPG
With my Louis in hand, I was ready to tackle the city, but not before making friends with a pigeon… Heheee!

IMG_2262.JPG
Stay tuned for a couple more posts this week featuring what I wore to the event, what I bought there, as well as a fab new dress from Voluptuous Clothing, that I just couldn’t live without!!!

PS. This shoot was not without risk! Pigeons poop… A LOT! Luckily I didn’t get hit, but it was a close one!

Fresh

IMG_7941-0.JPG

Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped, turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel Air

All my fellow 90s kids don’t need to hear more than a word or two to know that this the beginning of the instantly recognizable theme song from The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air!!!

This had to be my favourite show growing up; it was funny, there was always a good message, and Will. Smith. Was. HOT!!! (Uhh, still is actually.)

Naturally, since we’re seeing a serious revival of all things 90s, this show has a whole new following. This comes as no surprise to me – it has an appeal that will endure the test of time; but still, how freaking cool is it that my son watches it on Netflix!?!? (Cue the super excited mom, who just heard the theme song to her childhood playing on her son’s phone and now can’t stop talking to him about how awesome it was back in the day… Cue several eye rolls from said son as well.)

IMG_7949.JPG
You can only imagine my delight when I came across this Fresh Prince crop top from Rebdolls!!! (Actually maybe you can’t… I was embarrassingly excited.)

IMG_7947.JPG
Since I love mixing styles, I’ve paired it with this showstopping yellow midi skirt from ELOQUII, a fabulous statement necklace from Revolucion Jewelry, my vintage Burberry trench, (thanks Papa) and cute blue flats for a bold, flashy look that the Will would surely approve!

Size Sexy

IMG_7475.JPG
Do you know what size you are? You may be reading this and thinking, of course I do – but fellow Canadian, Tierra Sedgemore, the designer of this fab tee, and founder of the Size Sexy movement is trying to change the way women have been letting their sizes define them, one t-shirt at a time!

IMG_7461.JPG

IMG_7477.JPG
The message written across these tees is a short, but powerful one. A true rebel of a slogan, it goes against the idea we’ve all had drilled into our heads since we were little girls, that we are the number on our clothing labels. Notice how, even at the beginning of this post, I asked what size you are, and not what size you wear? That right there is proof enough that we have been letting our sizes determine our worth for far too long.

IMG_7497.JPG
I’ve paired mine with my pastel pink tutu from Zelie For She, gunmetal accessories and my grey, Rampage, grunge boots, for a playful, sexy look with a whole lot of attitude!

IMG_7480.JPG
I may wear a size 22/24, but the size I am is SEXY and you can join the movement too!

Purchase your Size Sexy tees in an assortment of colours on Tierra’s website (here), and in store or online at Sexy Plus Clothing. Also, don’t forget to follow Tierra on Instagram @tierrasedgemoresizesexy and use the #sizesexy hashtag!

In parting I’ll leave you with the words of the lady herself – “Don’t be defined by your size. Be size sexy!!!”

The Last Leg Of Summer

IMG_6379.JPG
As the fall collections roll out (I’ll admit it, I’m excited), and the days start to noticeably shorten; as the back to school supplies hit the shelves and much to their chagrin, we begin mentioning to our kids that’s school will be starting again soon, it’s easy to forget that it’s still summer – at least for a little while longer here in Montreal.

IMG_6377.JPG

IMG_6376.JPG
To remind myself of this, I broke out my white Bermudas from Addition Elle, and 3/4 length sleeve, white blazer from Torrid, this weekend. I’d been waiting to wear them so my best friend’s baby shower on Saturday was the perfect occasion!

IMG_6381-0.JPG
I paired the pieces with this lovely ombré, ruffled tank top, my trusty nude, T-strap flats, a vintage Berma Paris snakeskin clutch (circa 1975), my gold bangles, pretty stud earrings and a transparent, iridescent chain link necklace from Forever 21 that matched beautifully with the colours in my top.

IMG_6383.JPG
This outfit was the perfect reminder that summer hasn’t ended yet, and as much fun as it is to start planning fall outfits, it’s better not to wish your life away, but rather to live in the moment sometimes, and get every little bit of pleasure from life in, while you can!
