I’ve worn a tutu before. I own a pretty, light pink one, and it’s very much adorable, but I’ve always felt that it lacked a little drama for those times when I really wanted to slay.
So, while scrolling through my newsfeed one day, I happened upon a post from Mo Handahu, better known to most of you as the fabulous, Halifax based life & style blogger/designer/spectacular sunglasses aficionado, Lion Hunter.
She is just the epitome of cool, and takes the word chic to a whole new level with her consistently epic print mixing, and awe-inspiring accessories, so her posts always jump right off my screen, begging to be admired.
In this particular one, she was wearing a vibrant blue tutu, a colour that struck me as uncommon as far as these puffy tulle skirts go.
I soon discovered that not only was she wearing it five different ways with that flawless pizazz that only she can pull off (which is impressive in its own right), but she had hand crafted it herself as part of a lookbook for her own line, called “The Tutu Experience.” (Whaaaaaaaa!? No wayyyyyy, right!?)
So, I guess you can imagine my excitement upon finding out that not only could I now own one of Lion Hunter’s gorgeous tutus, but I could also have a chance to touch a piece of her, now somehow tangible, greatness!!!
There were so many colour choices, and it was tough to make a decision, but I had always wanted a brown tutu. So after giving some measurements, and a special request or two, a few clicks later my tutu order was sent!
I paired it with a cute leopard crop top from Rebdolls, because after all, I couldn’t wear a piece from Mo without paying homage to her by wearing at least one print!
I accessorized with some fierce, (albeit wickedly uncomfortable) cobalt blue pumps (probably my last attempt at heels ever) by Christian Siriano for Payless, a handmade Malian bronze & bead necklace, and topped it all off with my trusty yellow Ted Baker springbok hide clutch, for an edgy, vibrant touch.
I definitely turned heads in my tutu, between its rich brown colour, striking design, and the wind that kept blowing it up and showing off the goodies; and I can officially say this tutu experience was glorious!!!

Today, I’m celebrating my heritage and joining up with the French Curves collaboration!!! This is the monthly outfit photo challenge with the french touch, which takes place each 16th of the month, and was founded by the beautiful, and always so chic, Vanoue of The Curvy and Curly Closet.
But fear not, my Anglo loves! I’ve summarized it in English for you, because I wouldn’t want you to miss out!
The theme of this month’s challenge is GRAOU, or, as you’re probably more familiar with… RAWR!!!
I wear a lot of leopard print. Whether my outfit is super sexy, or conservative, a little leopard has the ability to lend a certain sense of animalism to anything it touches.
So I went with one of my favourite pieces – a pretty, black & red leopard print bomber from Addition Elle.
To have some fun with the theme, I paired it with an amazing snake print skirt, also from Addition Elle.
And because everyone knows that the secret lies in the details, the cherry on top of this animal print cake, is definitely an adorable leopard print necklace from Aldo, which compliments perfectly, the African bronze bracelet I’ve chosen to go with it!
Be sure to check out all the other gorgeous, plus size, Franco bloggers!

Et alors, sans attendre un moment de plus, ça me done beaucoup de plaisir de vous annoncer que je suis maintenant une participante dans le French Curves Challenge, créé par la belle, et toujours si chic, Vanoue, de The Curvy and Curly Closet !!!

Bisous mes amours !!! Ooh la la !!!

So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!
It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!
No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!
Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!
Don’t forget to check out my first YouTube video, and to subscribe to my channel; and be sure to visit elvi.co.uk to browse their fabulously chic clothing line!
Oooufff! These past couple of weeks have had me so busy, I’ve barely had the time to put on a decent outfit worth taking pictures of, let alone write a blog post!
My husband and I have been slowly working on putting up one of those fancy wooden swing sets in our back yard, and it has not been going well. Let’s just say, I am not a handy person; and my hubby is less than patient… You get the picture… He may or may not have stormed off into his man cave once or twice, but it wasn’t anything that a little beer and and a dip in the pool couldn’t take care of.
We haven’t killed each other yet, despite the fact that our project has stalled at about 90% completion due to rain and total lack of motivation; but it may happen. Just letting you all know, in case you stop hearing from me. Ha.
So today, since I can’t find the strength to go out there and slave over a swing set that has been halfway assembled for so long that its novelty with the kids has already worn off despite not even being finished yet, I’ve decided to be fabulous.
Seeing as all of our money has gone into buying the new swing set, (and beer) there hasn’t been much room for my fashion budget lately; and that’s why I love fast fashion options like Great Glam, where I snagged this black & white, faux silhouette bodycon dress, with mesh sleeves, for a very budget friendly price!
I’ve paired it with a simple, yet standout gold chain necklace from Forever 21, faux leather, wrap bracelet from Addition Elle, and great black patent pumps from Payless, for a polished look that’s as fierce as it is budget friendly.
Tomorrow I’ll face reality (AKA the 50,000 bolts, screws, and washers we have left, that are somehow all supposed to have a place to go) and hopefully finish the job… But in the mean time, just for today, I’m pretending that my dress is expensive, and that I can afford to pay someone to do things for me, like assembling ridiculous wooden swing sets, and such.
Summer is right around the corner, and we all know what that means!!! More shopping!!!
I’ve been busy putting together my summer wardrobe – lots of white, lots of color, and lots of prints and texture!
Today, I’m rocking this fun, tribal print bodycon dress from Forever 21+ (which is sadly, sold out right now, but similar options are available). I’ve paired it with these great turquoise wedges from Payless, some gold bangles, and these amazing, Forever 21 multicolored hoop earrings, for a bright, vibrant look that’s perfect for summertime!
An outfit is never complete without accessories, and I picked up a few beautiful, hand crafted pieces at local markets in Haiti, while I was there.
Haiti is filled with resourceful artisans who are capable of creating absolute jewels out of just about anything locally available. When setting foot into a Haitian marketplace you will find, among other things, accessories made of anything from discarded pieces of plastic, which are sculpted and polished into stunning rings and pendants, to wood, or even telephone wire, which is wrapped in string or ribbon to create beautiful bracelets.
These delicate shell necklaces and this gorgeous polished “kòn bèf” (bull horn) pendant were my finds, along with a gorgeous necklace and bracelet set made entirely out of hand strung seeds, which I will show off to you in a future post.
I’ve paired my natural, earthy bobbles with a basic black tank top and leggings from Addition Elle, a light peach colored, cap sleeve top from Forever 21+, which I’ve left open to flow in the breeze and graze my bountiful hips; and my trusty, nude, captoe flats from Payless, for a look of simple, casual perfection with an exotic touch – just right for adding a little Caribbean warmth to a damp, rainy Montreal afternoon.
First of all, look at me!!! Look at me!!! No, seriously… LOOK AT ME!!! My hair is straightened!!! Ahhh!!! (
I did not do this CAN not do this myself, so this is BIG!) Secondly – it finally arrived!!! I’d been waiting so impatiently for my package from Babooshka Boutique, and this week it finally arrived!!! I’m a little excited, in case you couldn’t tell.
A little while ago I ordered one of Babooshka Boutique’s fabulous design your own faux leather vent-tees and a couple of their great turbans, and I couldn’t be more pleased! As a plus sized girl, it is always fun when a “regular size” manufacturer’s product can accommodate my full figured frame; and this gorgeous, oversized vented tee (in an XL, their largest size – I usually wear a 2x 0r 18/20 on top) does exactly that, and flawlessly! There are quite a few items that look very generously cut as well, so if you know your body and are interested, don’t be scared to take a look!
I went with the charcoal grey jersey (so soft, like, OMG) and matte white sleeves, and I have to say, I’m really digging the combination! I love the modern silhouette of this top and its versatility. You could wear it with a cute pair of shorts, leggings, (which is what I went with) or even over a basic bodycon dress or skirt, if you’re feeling playful! I’ve paired my outfit with a great pair of grey, faux alligator pumps from Payless, silver earrings and a fun spiked bracelet from Addition Elle, for a clean, chic look that is smart and sophisticated, yet comfortable beyond belief.
Stay tuned over the next couple of days to see how I’ve been playing around with the turbans! So much fun!!!
