I’ve always loved vintage clothing; and there are so many treasures to be found in thrift stores, but stumbling upon great pieces that fit, especially when you’re plus sized, can be tricky.
When I discovered online thrifting for the first time recently (have I been living under a rock?) it was a real breath of fresh air. No more sifting through racks in search of gold amongst the pebbles… It was all right there in front of me, just a click away at divaXpress!
With sizes ranging from small to 3X, as well as accessories and shoes, divaXpress is my new favourite way to thrift!
I was lucky enough to be able to pick out three pieces, and I fell in love with them!!
The first was this fabulous, hunter green coat, reminiscent of every Canadian girl’s mum’s winter getup in the 90s.
Next, was this totally incredible, sequins covered, beaded, rhinestone bedazzled jean jacket, that somehow reminded me of something out of a tacky, old-school country music video, yet I just couldn’t live without! I mean… It’s so awesome!
Loving how well it pairs with my thigh-high boots from SexyPlus, too… Especially a foot deep in the snow! Hehee!
Remember, you need to act fast when you find something you love, because just like with regular thrifting, when it comes to the online variety, the good stuff sells quickly! New pieces are usually posted daily, so there is always something new to check out! Happy online thrifting!!!

Regardless of which holidays you celebrate, there is something magical here in Montreal this time of year! The snow-covered rooftops, decorated trees, houses aglow with dazzling multicoloured lights – no one can deny their beauty!
At least for me, there is even something exciting about a crowded shopping mall, or a busy intersection this close to Christmas. I just love seeing everyone rushing about, and wondering where they’re going, who they’re buying that last minute gift basket for, if they are on Santa’s nice list this year, and especially, what they’ll be wearing once they’ve found that train set little Timmy had so wanted, and their flustered, rosy cheeks settle briefly, only to return after a few splendid Christmas cocktails!
What could me a more perfect thing to wear, as I gather with the fam for the first of many celebrations to come this week, than my gorgeous, hunter green, uber fashiony (I know that’s not a word) Monif C. dress!
I paired it with another pair of fab shoes (designed by yours truly) from Shoes of Prey (Have I mentioned how much I love this website?). They’re just the right mix of edginess from the snakeskin, and princessiness (also not a word) from the kitten heel and bows – perfect for a whimsical, festive Christmassy look!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!
Whether icy pastels, like my last look, sparkles & baubles, or classic silhouettes are you thing, over the next few weeks, I am here for all if it!
Glamour and class are the name of the game this time of year, and this stunning black & gold, floral brocade midi skirt from JIBRI is the epitome of holiday elegance!
Its chic, structured shape will keep you looking graceful and sophisticated throughout any Christmas or New Year’s celebration (no matter how many champagne cocktails you may have) especially paired with simple cream coloured pieces like this smart, high neck crop top from Girl With Curves (as seen previously in my post “Crimped Hair and Side Belly“) and a fab coat!
So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!
It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!
No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!
Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!
Don’t forget to check out my first YouTube video, and to subscribe to my channel; and be sure to visit elvi.co.uk to browse their fabulously chic clothing line!
So you can imagine how cool it was popping into Voluptuous Clothing while I was in Toronto recently, and having the privilege of meeting the VoluotuousClothing.com CEO, Angela, who just happens to be a fabulous, sky-high heel wearing lady whom you just can’t help but admire!
I had ordered a cute, plaid bodycon dress from Voluptuous not too long ago, which I’m sure many of you will remember from my blog post, and I adored it so much that I knew I couldn’t leave the store empty handed!
I fell in love with this super chic, black & white knit, BB Dakota dress as soon as I saw it!
With its classic pattern and weighty fabric, wearing it feels like pure luxury!
It’s literally so comfortable I could have worn it to bed as pyjamas, and gotten up and kept on wearing it again the next day!
I’ve added a great belt, nude flats, and a fancy, fringed kimono from Ashley Stewart, topped off with a handcrafted, beaded necklace, a sassy ring, and the perfect faux fur clutch from Aldo, for a chic look with an elegant playful touch that combines class and comfort, effortlessly.
From the time of my grade six dances until very recently, finding the right dress to wear to a formal event was a struggle. It was always so tough to find a dress that encompassed all the aspects I was looking for to assure that I felt beautiful and comfortable all night long. I often had to make compromises when buying dresses, giving up a great neckline for a flattering cut or vice versa; and let me tell you, many tears were shed from these eyes in the name of formalwear, you have no idea!
Thankfully, online shopping has opened up a whole new world to me, and other curvy ladies who have known the struggle of trying to buy trendy, sexy plus size clothing throughout the 90’s; and especially the fight to find stylish formal dresses that actually flatter our figures! With so many sites, like Monif C. and Igigi to name a couple, full of stunning dresses just ripe for the picking I am finally now able to obtain all of what I look for in a dress – a great cut, usually bodycon with a sexy neckline, the perfect length, usually knee length or mid-calf, and a sleeve, preferably 3/4, because I still haven’t accepted my body enough to be at one with my upper arms (but it’s coming). In fact, online shopping has made my criteria so easy to find, that I am now bombarded by choices that I never would have dreamed of in the past – choices that celebrate my curves rather than try to hide them.
This particular pick, Ambrosia, from Igigi by Yuliya Raquel is really stunning. It hugs me in all the right places, the length is just right, it has a great 3/4 sleeve, a sexy V-neckline, and the color is simply divine. I do feel like “my girls” could be a little bigger to fill this dress up a bit more, but I don’t think it causes a major issue. Overall, I really love it, especially paired with a vintage gold colored necklace, a bold pair of dangly earrings and a fantastic light gold pump from Payless and the confidence I feel while wearing it is the best part!
