Well, it’s officially fall! Time for all the layering, all the scarves, sweaters, and boots… Right? Well… Maybe not just yet.
Just because it’s fall, doesn’t mean we have to start tossing out our fave trends from summer! Most of them carry just beautifully over into fall, and this (and last) summer’s off-the-shoulder trend is no different!
This stunning royal blue dress from SexyPlus is a must have for any fall wardrobe. It’s incredibly comfortable yet impressively structured. Look at those gorgeous pleats! Look at them!!!
Paired with a pretty lace choker (also from SexyPlus), a great pair of sunnies, a vintage clutch, and a cute pair of black leather gloves just in case it does get a little chilly out, this whole ensemble has a classic, old world feel about it that I seem to find myself drawn to like a magnet this season… Maybe it’s my hair (which has taken on some sort of retro vibe of its own as I’ve been trying to grow it out), but I can’t seem to get enough of it!
So don’t be so quick to stash your more summery pieces at the back of your closet just yet. You’ve still got plenty of time to take them out to play this fall, and who knows, you may even find yourself reworking them again come winter!

“That designer should be fired,” they said… “Not flattering at all,” they said… “Even the model looks unhappy to be wearing it,” they said… But what did Alysse Delassandro, designer (and said “unhappy” model) of the controversial Ready To Stare Convertible Cupcake Dress say…?
“Fuck you to flattering fat girl clothes,” and I couldn’t agree more!
I saw it on Facebook first, back around the time her holiday collection launched — the nasty comments, all because a designer dared to challenge society’s idea of what plus size fashion should be.
Even though I’ve learned not to be surprised by the closed-mindedness of people on the Internet, I couldn’t help but be a little bit shocked that so many plus size women themselves couldn’t see how empowering a statement this dress (which can also be worn as a skirt) truly was.
I get it though, I don’t feel this way personally, but I get it — we, as fat women, have fought so hard to wear form fitting clothes and be accepted by society, that the idea of wearing a piece that hides our curves seems scary — but it’s not.
In fact, it’s probably no more scary than the first time a fat woman wore a bodycon dress, which, newsflash — angry conformists everywhere probably had a problem with too!
What Alysse has done, is go up against the standard, which was once a controversy itself, and say, it’s time to forge further and conquer new territory in plus size fashion! It’s time to step out of these stagnant waters and allow ourselves to accept that we have a right to wear any style a thin person can, whether society deems it “flattering” or not!
All of that aside, I love this dress. I loved it even as my eyes were drawn down into vitriol being spewed in the comments section, and not just because I think everything Alysse touches turns to gaudy, yellow gold (in the most perfect possible sense, of course) but because it’s playful, bold, and one of the most couture plus size pieces I’ve seen this year.
So as it comes to a close, and we ready ourselves to stare 2016 in the face, I wish you all very happy holidays, as I prance through the snow in festive red, woven with gold, that, like its name suggests, looks good enough to eat!

It’s been a minute since my last post… Mostly because it’s been too cold to shoot outdoors… But since things aren’t looking up anytime soon with regards to weather for us Montrealers… I decided that a bare-legged minidress was the way to go! That’s right!!! F&@% YOU WINTER!!!
And how does a bad B accessorize a minidress at -36ºC? (That’s -32.8ºF for my American friends.) Why, with a fab blazer by Nicolette Mason for Modcloth, heart shaped sunnies (I see you, Valentine’s Day!), a little LV, and the absolute most beautifully delicate and versatile piece of jewelry out there – the infinity chain, from Canadian based, bstrd.com
I mean, this piece is so badass!!! Not only is it crafted out of gorgeous, high end sterling silver and gold vermeil chain, adorned with precious little bobbles of opal and Swarovski crystal, but it can be worn in a multitude of ways to compliment any outfit for any occasion!
I tried out a a few different styling options with my infinity chain, and I honestly really loved how all of them worked out!
It looks so perfect worn as a full on body chain!
So please do go take a look for yourselves, because there are so many unique styles to choose from at bstrd.com; and although the sizes of body jewelry are listed as one size fits all, custom orders/measurements are welcome, and can be discussed with a quick email to: firstname.lastname@example.org, or in the comments section of your order!

Winter hasn’t been quite what it usually is this year… For starters it has rained for the past few days, leaving us with a green Christmas (or at least a green one, spotted with patches of dirty white).
It’s also been quite mild, with temperatures well into the positives, and I must admit, it’s causing a very springy vibe.
As a matter of fact, it has felt so much like spring here, that yesterday I was channeling a total springtime fairy vibe… And I’m not gonna lie, I dig it!
I pranced through the patches if exposed grass, wondering if any early crocus buds would be poking up through the still frozen ground, and I smelled that unmistakeable smell of spring rain (pretty much a combination of mud & dog poop – I don’t know why they name fabric softener and scented candles after it).
I wore the absolute most comfortable pants in the universe (I’m not even joking right now). These amazing brown harems from Your Big Sister’s Closet are everything, and I felt like I was floating.
I paired them with a cute, short sleeved, cropped sweatshirt that I’ve had kicking around for ages, sparkly gold flats, a pretty flower ring, and get this – a headpiece. Only… It wasn’t meant to be one.
It’s actually a bib necklace which just so happens to (especially when paired with the perfect pair of flowy harem pants) double flawlessly as a spring goddess headdress, because who’s gonna stop me!?
Because every woman needs a Little Black Dress!
No woman’s wardrobe is quite complete without the perfect little black dress. Many of us even have a whole section of our closets devoted solely to this fashionista’s staple, in all fabrics, styles, and silhouettes!
Oddly enough though, considering all the clothes I have, (which is way more than I need because, #shoppingproblems) I only have three! One is a glitzy sequins number, and the other two are both very simple T-shirt dresses.
T-shirt dresses are my faves because they are just such effortlessly versatile pieces! It never ceases to amaze me how one can be worn as a baggy oversized tee, with belt & a pair of jeans, yet can still be dressed up to create an uber classy, elegant look that nobody would believe was formed around the likes of a glorified T-shirt.
I’ve paired my ASOS Curve LB T-shirt D (Hehee!) with thee absolute most luxurious feather bolero from Addition Elle, faux-fur beanie from ASOS, faux-fur muff from TionDesign and my gorgeous shoes (designed by moi) from Shoes of Prey.
I topped the look off with a fab, old Hollywood style bib necklace and earrings from Forever 21 for a decadent, Art Deco inspired holiday look that lacks in neither comfort, style nor practicality… Okay, it totally lacks in practicality, but how adorable do I look!?
And Just in case you can’t tell, there was a serious blizzard happening here in Montreal during this shoot!

And just like that it’s full blown winter here in Montreal! Snow covered trees, fences, rooftops – it’s so beautiful this time if year… You know… Before the white, fluffy, powdery snow turns into one solid mass of greyish, crystallized, frozen waste…
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… For now, it still looks like a scene from a good old fashioned holiday movie out there, and it has me feeling swell!
Movies like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, and classic Christmas music, they have this magical, old-world, holiday charm about them.
When I see the snow sitting upon drooping branches, and smell the intoxicating aroma the neighbour’s wood burning stove, I feel some sort of imagined nostalgia for an era I was never a part of; and my new, pastel blue coat from ELOQUII channels my wistful affection for Christmases past with grace and elegance.
In in keeping with the theme, I’ve paired it with my gorgeous, pale pink, customized (of course) ruffled dress from eShakti, peep toe (yes peep toe) silver pumps from Aldo, a faux-fur, pillbox shaped hat from Forever 21, and a vintage, hand beaded clutch. A knuckle, and midi ring add a fresh, modern touch to this glamorous, retro style and take it into the 21st century.
So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!
It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!
No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!
Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!
