It’s all happeniiing!!! Montréal + Fashion Week is going down this weekend (May 20th-22nd) and I am incredibly excited!!!
Lots of you who are coming will be local Montrealers, but I know many of you will be stopping in from out of town, some for the first time, and it is a true pleasure for me, as well as the rest of the MTL + FW team to welcome you not only to this exciting event showcasing plus size fashion, beauty, and style, but to our beautiful city!
Knowing that so many of you will be visiting got me thinking about all the best stuff my city has to offer! The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Saint Joseph’s Oratory, and Montreal’s historic Old Port, including a sandy beach in the middle of the city, just to name a few; but being the fat girl that I am, there is one aspect of this city that, even being born and raised here, still awes me — the food!!!
I started feeling nostalgic and craving some classic Montreal fare, and one iconic spot that every Montrealer has been to, and if not, will definitely recognize, came immediately to mind! Gibeau Orange Julep, (AKA The Big Orange) of course!!!
I haven’t been there since I was a kid, riding shotgun with my grandfather up to that gigantic orange dome for a cup of their frothy, milky, pulpy, orangey signature beverage, and I just had to go back!
As I sat there reminiscing, I realized that I’ve come a long way since I was that young girl who loved cheeseburgers, but didn’t love herself… Back then I would have walked up to the counter with a hoodie tied around my waist to hide my visible belly outline, then hidden in the car to scarf down my food where nobody would notice me.
This time, as I stood on the very ground where when last I stood, I was ashamed to exist, it felt like a celebration! Through plus size fashion, and becoming a part of the inspirational community of plus size bloggers and retailers that are changing the game for fat girls everywhere, stepping out with my VBO in plain sight to enjoy some greasy, glorious food at a picnic table in front of the world, was not only one of life’s little pleasures that I had long missed out on, but a sweet victory over the insecurities of my past.
When I said I was excited about Montréal + Fashion Week, it may have been an understatement, because I can’t even put into words just how proud I am to see an event like this take place in my beloved city, let alone be a part of it!
I look forward to seeing all the beautiful faces in attendance this weekend, and whether you’re a Montreal girl, like myself, or in town to take it all in, I hope you know just how much your support of this event, and the plus size industry as a whole, means to me!
If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, it’s not too late! You can purchase them here. You can also visit the Montréal + Fashion Week website for more info and details on the event at www.montrealplusfashionweek.com.

So… I don’t do the tanning thing, and no matter the season, these are how my legs look; but I’ve never really noticed it, or thought to address it quite as much as I did the other day when I decided to expose my pasty-whites against a backdrop of snow.
See, I have a hard time with pantyhose. I honestly don’t know if there is anyone else there with this problem, but… The skin on the insides of my thighs is so soft and thin, that it actually seeps through the weaving of the pantyhose and I end up getting worse chub rub than if I had worn nothing at all. I’ve tried sizing up, I’ve tried different brands – nothing works. I’ve just accepted it. This is my hose-less life; and it is why you’ll see that I’m never wearing them no matter what the weather.
THERE! I said it!
I’ve actually gotten quite used to it, though. Despite my grandmother thinking I’m nuts, I don’t really get cold. Obvi I’m not choosing these types of outfits for activities where I will be spending any extended period in the cold outdoors, but barelegged, wintertime looks have been known to happen.
And my faux-fur vest from Addition Elle, which works so perfectly over this fab sheer, burgundy blouse which I scored at the BIG Deal Toronto, closet sale from fellow plus size style blogger, Jessica, of Clothes and Shit. What can I say, the girl’s got taste!
Be sure to check out Jessica on www.clothesandshit.com and don’t forget to follow her, @jesskuuh on Instagram!!!
As my loyal followers know, I’ve been debating cutting it short again for as long as I’ve been blogging (longer actually) and I finally got the nerve up to go through with it!!! For those of you who don’t, I wrote a blog post at the start of this year detailing my long hair vs. short hair struggle (here).
I went with a cut that would offer me the best of both worlds – an undercut that’s short and edgy, yet long enough on top to showcase my beautiful curls and volume!
A great haircut is nothing without a fab outfit, though, so I rocked my new do with my fave skirt – an acid wash chambray, high-low number from Addition Elle, a vibrant, tribal print crop top from Forever 21+, grey suede, laser cut oxfords from Esprit, and my gorgeous Louis Vuitton Speedy 40 handbag.
For those of you who don’t know what these are, they are the terms that people type into their search engines which lead them to clicking on my blog, and you can believe me when I say that many if these terms are downright hilarious! I’ve seen search terms going from “fat nude white girl” all the way to “big black sexy naked beauty.”
Yup. Nudity is almost always in there somewhere; but the second most common search terms I see go something along the lines of “how to wear plus size harem pants.”
I gather, from how often these search terms come up, that harem pants continue to be a coveted, yet intimidating style among the full figured community, and I totally understand. I was, at one time very much nervous about wearing them too.
See, and I know I’ve discussed this with you many times before, I have a serious case of the bum-tum (tummy that looks like a second butt in the front), and harem pants have proven to be a huge struggle to pull off (not literally off, that part is easy).
I wrote another post a while back (here) about with a tip on wearing a peplum top, or belt to help disguise your tummy. I still love this idea, but I’ve come up with another.
As you can see, I’ve paired the same harem pants (Forever 21+) from my other post, with this absolutely delicious blue, vintage style tee from Addition Elle; and instead of tucking it in and putting my belly on display, I’ve left it untucked, except for a small bit of it on one side. This way, you have nearly full tummy coverage while still showing off the signature high waist and pockets of the pants at the same time. It’s the best of both worlds!
Pair the ensemble with colourful flats and a bright handbag for a casual, chic, put together look that incorporates the on trend look of harem pants with the comfort of knowing you’re tummy is hidden.
So, I grabbed lunch and a coffee (by coffee, I mean iced green tea, loaded with sugar, cancelling out all possible health benefits) with my favourite ladies yesterday; and I decided to wear one of the newest additions to my closet – this sassy, blush coloured muscle tee from Forever 21+, with the words “eat your heart out” printed across the front.
I paired it with a simple black pencil skirt with waist detail, but I wanted to glam my look up a bit, so I accessorized with this gorgeous iridescent necklace, which looks ridiculously like real opals (swoon), bracelets, as always, and these adorable round, nude framed sunnies which I just picked up on sale at Forever 21, and I absolutely adore!
From the minute I first laid eyes on it, I just knew… This is the one. The flattering length, bodycon cut, and the print… Ohhh, the PRINT!!! I can’t even!!! When I look at it, it evokes images of coconuts, sand, and ocean waves… A dusty roadside marketplace, colorful linens and mangoes for sale… It is, in a word, perfection.
I’ve pulled my hair up in a big, luxurious bun for an elegant, exotic look that definitely lives up to this dress’s fantastic tropical print.
And so… I’m just gonna come right out and say it – I look HOT!!! So hot, in fact, that I couldn’t help myself… I even took a belfie!!! That’s a butt selfie, by the way!
Summer is right around the corner, and we all know what that means!!! More shopping!!!
I’ve been busy putting together my summer wardrobe – lots of white, lots of color, and lots of prints and texture!
Today, I’m rocking this fun, tribal print bodycon dress from Forever 21+ (which is sadly, sold out right now, but similar options are available). I’ve paired it with these great turquoise wedges from Payless, some gold bangles, and these amazing, Forever 21 multicolored hoop earrings, for a bright, vibrant look that’s perfect for summertime!
