Hot Dorks

So what happens when you put two best friends, a mini girls’ (and kids’) getaway, and a camera together!?  Super adorable blog pics, that’s what!!!

A couple of weekends ago, my bestie and I got away for a night of much needed relaxation and quality time with our kids, and decided that we were feeling ourselves so much that leaving the hotel without a photo shoot would just be wrong!

So I shot my usual poses, wearing a gorgeously luxurious linen tunic & mini-houndstooth pants from Addition Elle, paired with cute black & white flats and mixed metal bling. Everything went as it always does…

Then we shot a couple of her… Isn’t she stunning!? All was going so smoothly…

Until we tried to take some serious shots together… And everything unravelled…

Can you tell we were already fighting back the giggles?

No, like really… We just couldn’t! So we gave into the silliness and just had fun with it, and the result was…

We’re just a couple of big dorks… But we’re hot dorks… So we’re okay with that!

There’s a Party In My Pants

Or rather… On them… Or around them… Or something… Okay, so I just really wanted to use the term “party in my pants.” Deal with it!!!

But there’s a reason I’ve got pants parties on the brain! Until recently, I had never heard of hosting a Facebook leggins party… But OMG! It’s a thing!!!

Like… Seriously, how fun!? Plus, as the host, you get a discount on the great selection of Buskins products (available in regular and plus sizes) as long as somebody buys, and if 15 pairs are ordered, you even get a pair free!

Now, on average, I wear from a 22-24, depending on cut/fabric, and I will admit, I was a little hesitant about the one size fits most, “Pluskins” sizing, but I was pleasantly surprised.

They’re super soft (no, like, REALLY soft) and the “Atari Fever” pattern I chose is amazing!!! Very retro-video-game-chic, and totally speaks to my inner geek!!!

I will state that they JUST fit, though. I don’t think I could have packed any more of my bootyliciousness into them, but I’m a tall girl, and given that the plus collection is said to fit sizes 16-22 (inbetweenies might be better off looking in the direction of the staight sizing) I think the fit was pretty respectable. They didn’t even go see through over my butt!!!

I paired them with a simple, charcoal grey tank, a fab sweatsuit material coat from Addition Elle, along with the sweetest little polka dot flats from Walmart; and I toted my phone in a fancy Chanel inspired case that I snatched up from an Instagram shop a while back (yeah yeah, I know it’s fake), as well as Louis, of course, whom I take almost everywhere (he’s as real as they come).

I really enjoyed wearing my Buskins leggins. They’re cute, comfy, and whether you’re purchasing a pair just for you, hosting a Facebook party, or making a group purchase to save on shipping, I’m sure you’ll love the very reasonably priced selection!

For all inquiries, or to get started on hosting your Buskins Leggings Facebook party, check out Danielle McGaw’s Buskins website, or visit her Awesome Leggings – Buskins Facebook page and feel free to send her a message!

Now… Can we please just have a moment of silence for my fabulous pastel lilac hair that is no more… (This may have to happen again soon!)

And how amazing are my lashes looking in this Younique Moodstruck 3D Fibre Lashes Mascara!? I’m in love!!!

A Romp in the Snow

So… It’s finally warming up around here… Slowly but surely the sun has started shining, the streets are trickling with melted run off, the war with my children against going outside in just a T-shirt has resumed, and  the birds are at last, singing their happy springtime song after a winter that was cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey!!!

Of course along with spring, comes the entire nation, all melting at once, allowing every piece of rubbish, every dead animal, and every dog poop that has accumulated all winter, to thaw in unison, resulting in, let’s be honest, one hell of a stinky cocktail!

There’s also, still quite a thick covering of snow on the ground, and sure… You get hit with a face-full every now and again, as it blows off a rooftop… No seriously, here I am, actually getting  blasted with a gust of drifting snow.

But it’s all good, because I just look that cute in my jeggings, combat boots, and my Love & Legend, NOIR sweatshirt from Addition Elle!!!

I’m SO looking forward to seeing grass on the ground, leaves on the trees, and to getting hit in the face with the sweet smell of lilacs rather than snow, but for now, I’m not complaining…

Because at least it’s not -1,000,000º anymore, and I can actually be adorable in the snow, like… I romped… ROMPED, damnit! Just like they do it in the movies, and without the cold freezer-burning my face off!!! Hashtag awesomesauce.

Spring Break

It’s the last day of spring break here in Montreal (even though, technically it’s not spring yet and still looks and feels like the dead of winter) and I am SO over all this snow… Like… O.V.E.R. I.T.

But, since there’s not much else I can do (besides complain, and curse the part of the world in which I live) I’m doing the next best thing… Going into complete denial. Ha!!!

In my mind, at least for today, spring is sprung, the grass is riz… And the birdies… The birdies, you ask…? I’m pretty sure they’ve mostly all frozen to death, but, there are probably still a few out there… Somewhere.

So here I is – bare-legged and feeling fierce, decked out in the most amazing floral shift dress from ASOS CURVE!

I’ve paired it with some pretty pearl studs going all the way up my ears, and a simple, nude, beaded necklace from Walmart, for an edgy, granny chic look, which, let’s be honest, is perfectly topped off by my pastel purple hair!

Edit

And who cares that I completely destroyed my favorite flats!? (Actually I do… Why did I wear these in the snow? Gahhh!!!)

Purple Hair, Don’t Care

So, if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, you probably already know… I have pastel purple hair now!!!

I’ve been feeling like a needed a change for some time now, and I’m not ready to cut everything off again just yet, so I figured some temporary colour was the way to go… And I’m in love with it!!!

Admittedly, it reminds me of a very confused style phase I went through from the late 90s to the early 2000s, which involved a slew of wild coloured hair dyes, dark brown lipstick, facial (and a few other more risqué) piercings, a few tattoos that I regret, and a whole lot of Matchbox Twenty, Missy Elliott, and… Sigh… Creed.

So, in honour of awkward times past, I decided to let my nostalgia take the lead on this one!

I paired one of my fave white blouses (an oldie, but a goodie) with some great black leggings with pleather insert detail, from Penningtons. Overtop, I layered one of my fave spring sale scores, this gorgeous chiffon skirt/belt thing (I honestly don’t know how else to describe it) from Addition Elle’s 2014 holiday collection.

I accessorized with some fun fake tattoo bracelets, put in all my earrings (which my Catholic high school’s administration were not pleased with back in the day), threw on my new Hautecore lippie from MAC, and finished it all off with my gorgeous shoes, from Shoes of Prey, for a delicate, classic touch.

I’m pretty sure I would have swooned at the sight of this outfit back in 2001…
And even though, back then, crazy hair colours were all about the neons, I would have been downright drooling over this pastel mauve, without a shadow of a doubt!

A Big Girl In A Body Chain

IMG_3043.JPG
Some plus size things are harder to find than others; and when it comes to body jewelry, it can be next to impossible to find something to fit our frames – or so I thought, until I discovered Canadian jewelry designer, Cristy Ellen K!!!

IMG_3041.JPG
Cristy Ellen, the lady behind the brand, is an up and coming indie jewelry designer with belief that great style is great style, regardless of size!

IMG_3036.JPG

IMG_3048.JPG
Her passion for her work shines through in her amazing, one-of-a-kind, pieces; and each piece is handcrafted with love, and attention to detail.

IMG_3035.JPG
While, when it comes to body jewelry, Cristy Ellen specializes in plus size pieces, she says “I make double zero to 6X because every body is beautiful.”

IMG_3052.JPG
Not only is the body positive philosophy of Cristy Ellen K inspiring, but her pieces are just so freaking cool!!!

IMG_3038.JPG

IMG_3034.JPG
I mean… A plus size body chain that actually wraps around my waist at the hip and fits!? Craziness!!!

IMG_3050-0.JPG

IMG_3039.JPG
Wearing it brought out my inner glam-rocker chick, so I slapped on some winged liner (more like, very carefully applied, trying super hard not to screw up) and paired it with my favourite (my only) jumpsuit & denim jacket, from ASOS Curve, some cute black & gold flats, and a pale grey, vintage leather clutch, for a edgy look that made me feel so fierce that I’m actually a little embarrassed to admit how many pics I was giving my resting bitch face (AKA the stink eye) in. Hahaaa!

So check out Cristy Ellen K and see all the fab pieces she has to offer, and keep your eyes open for more of her pieces here on the blog!

Celebrating In Yellow Tweed

So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!

It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!

No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.

IMG_2836.JPG

IMG_2834.JPG
If you’ve never shopped at Elvi, you NEED to start!!! I am totally in love with everything they have to offer – the definition of class and elegance.

IMG_2837.JPG
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!

Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!

Toronto Style

IMG_2270.JPG
So, as most of you know, I spent the weekend out of town to attend Big Deal Toronto, blogger closet sale, and body positive gathering of the plus size community, organized by blogger, Karen Ward (Curvy Canadian), owner of Your Big Sister’s Closet.

I also got the chance to meet up with some of my lovely blogger friends, as well as meet some new beautiful, blogging babes!!! I managed to do a little shopping too!

IMG_2259.JPG
I set out for my first retail adventure on Saturday in my fave new “Addicted to BLACK” tank top from Addition Elle, which couldn’t be more true!

IMG_2260.JPG
My 2014 New Years resolution was to wear more colour, just to put things into perspective a little, so you can imagine I have a bit of a love affair with black; and with it being everywhere this fall, I definitely won’t be kicking the habit anytime soon!

IMG_2266.JPG
I paired it with a great pair of jeans, my vintage Burberry trench & scarf, and my favourite thing to put on my feet right now (besides peppermint foot lotion – OMG I love that stuff), my thigh high boots from SexyPlus!

IMG_2263-0.JPG
With my Louis in hand, I was ready to tackle the city, but not before making friends with a pigeon… Heheee!

IMG_2262.JPG
Stay tuned for a couple more posts this week featuring what I wore to the event, what I bought there, as well as a fab new dress from Voluptuous Clothing, that I just couldn’t live without!!!

PS. This shoot was not without risk! Pigeons poop… A LOT! Luckily I didn’t get hit, but it was a close one!

Thankful For Plaid

It’s officially thanksgiving weekend and I’ve been trying to get this post out all week, I swear!!!

First, the day I was supposed to do my shoot, my bestie gave birth to a beautiful baby boy (Yay!!!) annnd then I dropped my phone in the bathtub while attempting to shave my legs and binge watch Vampire Diaries at the same time (Damn you, Damon!!!). So, just add those to my list of excuses for why I don’t get posts out on time… *sigh*

IMG_0153.JPG
Aaaaanyway, I’m super excited to finally show off this fabulous, pixelated plaid, bodycon from Toronto based, Voluptuous Clothing!!! I first saw it, worn to perfection by the stunning Fluvia Lacerda, and featured on the cover of the Fall Fashion issue of DARE Mag and fell in love! It’s the absolute perfect autumn dress, with a classic, curve hugging silhouette and this fall’s hot plaid trend, which I just can’t get enough of!

Boss B*tch

IMG_7808.JPG
A new attitude has come over me lately… I don’t know if it’s my new haircut, or if I’ve just finally realized how strong a woman I actually am… Maybe it’s a combination of the two; but one thing is for sure – I’m living my life my way and I’m doing it like a boss.

As women, (especially fat women) we’re constantly questioning ourselves. Can I do this? Is she better than me? What if he doesn’t like me? Am I pretty enough? Do these jeans make me look fat? Will they laugh at me? What if I fail? And the reality is, life is some really scary sh*t – but most of us are doing just fine.

We try so hard, only to worry that we haven’t tried hard enough, and sometimes we just need to take a step back and realize that we’re doing a damn good job at this whole existence thing!!!

When it all comes down to it, you don’t have to answer to any single mortal being in this world but yourself. You are your rule maker, your rule breaker and nobody can tell you how you should feel, so own it! Allow yourself to be proud that you’ve made it this far!

Be the boss b*tch you were born to be!!!

In honour of my recent attitude adjustment, I’m wearing a dope crop top from Rebdolls (formerly Custom Plus), paired with a textured skirt from Penningtons, a little bling from Forever 21, and this fab, cropped sweatshirt from Addition Elle – the perfect look to express my feelings of empowerment.
