Everyone is annoyed with me. Nobody knows what I’m saying, and they’re too fed up with listening to my incessant hissing and rasping, to care anymore. I’ve become white noise; and truth be told, I’m pretty sick of hearing my own voice at this point too. Is it possible that I actually talk MORE when I have laryngitis!? Ugh…
And it’s been one of those weeks too. We had an incident. A dead-squirrel-in-the-pool incident that I will probably have nightmares about for the rest of my life… Let’s just say, I may or may not have cried/gagged/cried some more. So that was fun.
But at least there are few silver linings… (Not for Mr. Squirrel, however – unless you count the lining of our pool.)
It’s been a long weekend for many of us here, and tomorrow is Canada Day! The hubby and I got our pool up and running better than ever after Squirrelmageddon; and the silverest (not a word, but who cares) lining of all…? My jewelry!!!
I’ve noticed that I’ve been neglecting my silver jewelry lately, so regardless of the fact that when I speak, I’m pretty sure I sound like what I would imagine the late Mr. Squirrel’s last moments sounded quite similar to, I decided that today was as good a day as any to take a few of my favorite pieces out for a spin!
I’ve gotten caught up in the whole cool/warm, silver/gold skin tone debate before. With my fair skin, cool, pink undertones, and blue veins, I always thought I should look better in silver, so for a long time that was all I ever wore. I only started wearing gold jewelry a couple of years ago, when I realized that my year round, generous covering of golden, tawny freckles looks totally fabulous in gold too! As it ends up, I’ve converted almost exclusively to gold, but I do still love me some silver jewelry.
I also happen to love me a fancy statement ring, and this ring from Forever 21 is the perfect combination of both! I mean, is it not freaking gorgeous!? With it, I went with a large silver chain necklace, also from Forever 21, these cute, big silver dome studs from Aldo Accessories, and of course, my trusty bangles.
Since I love the look of of silver with white and brights, I decided on wearing both! I find it can look a little abrasive paired with dark colors at times, (which can be hot if you’re going for a rocker chic look, but better for winter than summertime) so I paired my lovely, silver bobbles with some simple, white capris, a cute, striped neon coral top, (both from Addition Elle) and my fantastic, metal-toed, silver flats from Aldo, for a polished, casual look that definitely helped me to forget that I’m sick, and that I allegedly lost my sh*t (which I will neither confirm, nor deny) during the squirrelpocalypse.
PS. Unfortunate fact: There is no squirrel emoji. Gahhh!!! Why is there no squirrel emoji!? I really could have used one this week.
PPS. Not as unfortunate as the fate of Mr. Squirrel, however. May he rest in peace.
From the minute I first laid eyes on it, I just knew… This is the one. The flattering length, bodycon cut, and the print… Ohhh, the PRINT!!! I can’t even!!! When I look at it, it evokes images of coconuts, sand, and ocean waves… A dusty roadside marketplace, colorful linens and mangoes for sale… It is, in a word, perfection.
I’ve pulled my hair up in a big, luxurious bun for an elegant, exotic look that definitely lives up to this dress’s fantastic tropical print.
And so… I’m just gonna come right out and say it – I look HOT!!! So hot, in fact, that I couldn’t help myself… I even took a belfie!!! That’s a butt selfie, by the way!
It’s been raining for two days straight here in Montreal, so I figured I would brighten up my day (and hopefully yours, regardless of the weather) with this very colorful post, featuring this stunning, multi-colored floral kimono from Forever 21+ and this amazingly vibrant necklace from ALDO Accessories.
I’ve paired these pieces with my trusty black leggings from Additon Elle, a reddish-orange tank top (Forever 21+) which matches perfectly with the kimono, cute T-strap flats (Forever 21) and some colorful bracelets, to create a bold, lively look that could brighten up just about anyone’s day!
Since the start of this year, I challenged myself, and I went from someone who feared wearing color, to… Well… This girl that you see here! I’ve already received so many compliments on this outfit – it’s crazy! I never could have imagined that I would feel so free and confident wearing such bright, bold hues, but let me tell you, it feels amazing!!!
All can say is this – never be afraid to be seen. Do not feel like you should be invisible. Wear color! There is a joy that comes from wearing beautiful colors that I never new existed until I really gave it a shot; and I would hate for any of you to miss out on this fantastic feeling!!!
It’s funny, because back in high school, I can remember hating the color grey. I remember saying that humans shouldn’t wear grey because it wasn’t a naturally occurring color on the human body – even grey hair isn’t actually grey, but an illusion caused by the growth of white hair mixed with the original color. So in my mind, being the all-knowing, hard-headed teenager that I was, it all made perfect sense!
But one day… I can’t remember when, or even how, I fell in love with grey. I fell in love with it’s softness, it’s smoothness and with the way it made me feel comforted; and I have been loving it ever since.
This gorgeous, oversized t-shirt dress from boohoo.com is probably one of my favorite items in my closet right now. After all, I’ve shown it to you in prior posts, in cream and in black too. It’s incredibly versatile, comfortable and luxurious feeling, so imagine my elation when it was restocked in my size in grey!!! Woop woop!!!
I’ve paired this delightfully simple dress with my favorite cognac colored belt from Additon Elle, mustard yellow and cognac wedges from Walmart, this delicate cross necklace from Forever 21, and a fun, chunky, animal print bracelet for an effortlessly chic look that is totally true to the relaxed vibe it exudes.
No seriously… I woke up like this. It’s Friday; and also happens to be date night for the hubby and me! Tonight’s plan: dinner and drinks at one of our favorite spots in Montreal! And guess who’s rocking a just-rolled-out-of-bed, sexy, messy-hair look? This girl! And why, you ask? Because I don’t feel like spending three hours nearly immobile, letting my hair air dry, all the while trying to fight my three-year-old off from attempting to wrestle with me, and causing my curls to dry in a knotty frizzy mess, because the reality is, I’ve pretty much already achieved that look, with a lot less effort.
We always look forward to date night. With four kids, life can be a little crazy
sometimes, scratch that – all the time! So, date night is our special time to regroup, reconnect and enjoy a little intimate time together, one on one, without the constant complaints, demands and sheer lack of privacy that come along with having a large family. And imagine, my husband wants to try for one more!?!? Oh Lord, has he lost his mind?
But anyway, while we still have only four, and date night is still possible, we are seizing the moment, taking the time to enjoy each other, to keep our marriage exciting and strong; and what better way to remind your man of what he’s got, than to turn up the sex appeal just for him!?
So, tonight, to go along with my messy, tangled locks, I’m rocking this chic William Rast mesh top, from Addition Elle, over my favorite black t-shirt bra (Additon Elle), showing some skin but still leaving enough to the imagination; and I’ve paired it with this great quilted pleather belt (Addition Elle), black leggings and charcoal grey, Aldo flats.
For the record, my appearance is nowhere near as human as this when I actually wake up in the morning, but I haven’t scared my husband off yet, so I guess I don’t look that bad! Ha!
I wear short shorts! I DO!!!
Before buying these adorable printed shorts from Forever 21+, I hadn’t worn a pair since gym class in my early teens. I had long believed, been told, and heard said that they were reserved for thin legged, gap-thighed ladies with no cellulite – that a girl like me had no business subjecting anyone to such a sight. But lately I’ve been feeling inspired. I’ve been seeing more and more voluptuous, curvy, plus size ladies breaking through society’s beauty barriers and rocking short shorts confidently, and I just had to try and get in on some of the action!
I have to say, it was not the easiest task… When you’re fat, your thighs tend to rub together while you walk and things can get a bit tricky. Wearing my shorts wasn’t as simple as I would have liked, but I found, once I stopped trying to pull them down constantly and gave into their short short length, the bunching at the crotch stopped being an issue. To my absolute joy (and moderate disbelief) I was actually able to wear them without looking like I had a banana in my pocket!!! (Or was I just happy to see you?)
But in case, due to body type or style, your shorts refuse to cooperate, there exists, a product called NoRiders, which I am now dying to try! The product consists of iron on and sew in strips for your inseam, which are apparently very effective at preventing shorts from riding up at the crotch. I will definitely be letting you know how they work out once I’ve gotten my hands on some!
Anyway, all fat girl, thigh rubbing, crotch riding (sounds like some new painful Olympic demo sport) aside, I felt amazing in my new shorts! I paired them with this great boohoo.com black, oversized t-shirt dress, (seen in cream color and styled differently in my older post “Winter Is Coming, And Coming… And Coming“) belted at the waist, and accessories like this beautiful statement ring from Forever 21, my favorite black turban from BABOOSHKA, and these amazing, inexpensive black and gold sandals from Walmart, to create the perfect boho-chic, summer look that works for anything from a day at the park chasing after the kiddies to a sun-filled afternoon on the lido deck with your glorious, dimpled upper thighs proudly on display, letting everyone know that you have the right to be cool and comfortable in the heat too!!!
Ladies, forget everything your mother told you. Forget everything you thought you knew. Mixing prints, or print clashing, is here to stay… And it is glorious!!!
The old rule of “never mix two prints” has been thrown out the window and it has made way for so many amazing combinations! Florals with stripes, pinstripe with tribal – you name, it can be done; and all without the fear that someone might look at you and think you’re some sort of crazy person! Sweet!
This weekend I was inspired, both by an article I shared on the Flight of the Fat Girl Facebook page on mixing prints, as well as a comment from a fan, who wondered if polka dots were flattering on a full figured woman. So, I decided to play around a little.
I’ve paired my awesome Instant Vintage polka dot jeans (Addition Elle) with this decadent, Love & Legend printed multi-way vest (also Addition Elle), tan cami from Forever 21+, and these adorable blue and white striped wedges from Walmart to create a mix and match look that seems to just meld together as though it was always meant to be.
So, dare to try something new! Mix your prints! Experiment! If you’re reluctant, just try something subtle like a tone on tone striped pant, and a great printed scarf; or if you’re looking to make a real statement, go with a couple of amazing bold prints to really get noticed! The possibilities are endless!
